About Black Lotus Yoga
Come join us for 4 weeks of exploring the Second Series of the Black Lotus Yoga system! Asana, pranayama, chanting, philosophy and breaking down some of the postures and transitions. This deep dive will be an amazing way to get acquainted with the practice and get you started on a regular practice journey.
Black Lotus Yoga is the latest blossom of the modern vinyasa tradition. It arose unexpectedly, on a sudden wave of breath, to inspire bold new explorations of the body and mind.
Though rooted in old principles, the system gives tradition new life by welcoming improvisation within an overarching structure. With six balanced and exhilarating sequences, Black Lotus Yoga reaches deep into the body, rouses our vital energy, and invites the creative sap to flow.
This online intensive is an introduction to the Second Series in the Black Lotus system. We will learn how the system works. Not only will we explore the asana part, but also dive deep into the philosophy and pranayama that are a part of this system.
We will learn the Second Series breath by breath, covering all the postures and movement patterns that it comprises, while exploring the internal forms of breath, bandha and mudra that bring the practice alive.
This month-long exploration is for anyone who wants to learn Black Lotus Yoga. Experience with Black Lotus Yoga is not necessary. Ashtanga practitioners will find the system both familiar and refreshing. All interested are welcome to join. Although knowledge of the First Series is useful, it is not necessary โ and you can always go back and explore the First Series in your own time.

Schedule
4 weeks in August โ two live led classes on Monday and Wednesday, a live pranayama & chanting session on Friday, and a posture-breakdown video released every Saturday. The intensive starts on Monday, August 3rd.

In this session we will understand what it means to connect to our core. Being able to find our center of balance and movement is key in learning how to stand on our feet as well as our hands!

Yummy Hip Opening
The Second Series is our first encounter with some of the most powerful hip-opening sequences I have ever encountered! We will break them down, and learn how to do them safely to access some mega space in the pelvis!

Backbending I โ The Spine, the Breath, the Biomechanics
Kapotasana, Forearm Wheel and Dropbacks are just some of the backbends we learn in the Second Series of the Black Lotus system! In order to feel safe and spacious in these deep backbends it is key to learn the anatomy of the spine, movement of the breath, and understand the mechanics of each โ which is exactly what we'll explore.

Backbending II โ Shoulder Mobility & Thoracic Range
This session will address some unconventional techniques from my own practice to help you build strength and health in your shoulder joint, as well as drills to help you build more space for movement in your mid back. All these tools have helped me access bigger backbends and do them with greater ease.
